Stalosan F – drying out

The importance of powder hygiene products’ ability to bind water in the animal housing is limited.

Water retention is greatly overestimated, when choosing a powder hygiene product for the animal housing. The amounts recommended for use, typically 50 g / m2, are far too small to be able to keep a barn floor constantly dry. Since dehydration does not kill pathogens, it is a false sense of security, and just a little moisture from urine, manure, etc. can cause the growth of bacteria to rise sharply again and create infection and disease.

Instead, it is crucial to choose agents that kill harmful microorganisms and degrade their living conditions via pH lowering and ammonia binding.

If water binding actually is desired in the barn, Stalosan F has the special property of being able to convert water into ammonium sulphate if ammonia is also present. This removes both water and ammonia, which is converted to nitrogen-containing manure.

Below is the result of a laboratory test, which shows the water binding of Stalosan F with ammonia on the right and without ammonia on the left. The same amount of Stalosan F and water has been used in both glasses, but the glass on the right had a smaller amount of ammonia added (approx. 1% solution.). This increases the water binding capacity of Stalosan F 2-4 times. The additional amount of sediment is primarily ammonium sulphate, formed from water, ammonia and Stalosan F.
